Chapter 1: Who are you?

Imagine you're sitting in an airport, coffee shop, or park, and someone asks, “So, who are you?” How would you respond?


Most athletes would say something like, “I’m Sarah, I play soccer,” or “I’m Josh, I run track.” And while that sounds normal, it actually reveals something deeper: we often define ourselves by what we do, not who we are. But what happens when injury hits? Or the season ends? Or your playing days are over?


As Christians, we can fall into the same trap when talking about God. We describe Him by what He does—Creator, Savior, Helper. But in Matthew 28:19, Jesus makes it clear who God is: “baptizing them in the name of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.” God is a Father, Jesus is a Son, and the Holy Spirit is love. Their identity is not based on their activity, but on their being.
