Jesus Is King - Palm Sunday & Every Day

When I think about Palm Sunday and Jesus entering Jerusalem as the king, so many thoughts come to mind. For most of us Christians I feel the thought is this. How could they honor and hail him as king, and then just 5 days later crucify him on the cross? This is a justified thought and one that I don’t think we have to feel guilty about. After all, if you were simply reading the scriptures like a story, it would be an unlikely twist. Just when you think, finally they get it, and Jesus of Nazareth is about to take his rightful place as king, they turn on him. I would even argue that the 12 apostles did not see Christ’s passion coming.

So what about us? I want us to consider what we do each Sunday. For most of us that are honest, myself included, we get so excited about Sunday and the opportunity to worship him as the king of kings. We wake up, get dressed, and excitedly go off to join others at our local church. But are we much different than the palm waivers and those who laid blankets down?
The difficulty in living the Christian life is taking palm Sunday and keeping that passion and zeal for the faith the rest of the week. You see, it’s so easy for most of us to ask the above question of how they could crucify him, but don’t most of us crucify him each day? We allow ourselves to get so distracted by the world that we forget about our purpose. Christ calls each of us to be disciples to all nations, yet we often go through our days without putting him first.
My challenge to you is this. Strive to make each day about your true purpose. Put Jesus above all things and then go live the gospel. Worship him with a joy and a love that is infectious to others. Live it at practice, live it with your teammates, and compete in a way that honors him in all you do. When you fail, and we all will, repent and try again. Let’s change the routine of our Christian culture. Jesus Christ died that you might have life, not just on Sundays, but every day. Happy Holy Week!
